[Webinar] Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures: Exploring the Intersection of Heritage, Sustainability, and Climate Action

As our world faces increasingly urgent environmental challenges, it is imperative to engage and empower the next generation in the pursuit of sustainable solutions. The webinar, “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures: Exploring the Intersection of Heritage, Sustainability, and Climate Action,” recognizes the critical role that youth play in shaping the future of our planet.

Heritage, encompassing both natural and cultural elements, serves as a reservoir of knowledge and inspiration for sustainable practices. By exploring the intersection of heritage with sustainability and climate action, we can uncover innovative approaches rooted in traditional wisdom and local contexts.

This webinar aims to provide a platform for young people to delve into these interconnected themes, fostering dialogue, awareness, and action. Through interactive discussions and expert insights, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how preserving heritage can contribute to environmental sustainability and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

ABOUT THE RESOURCE SPEAKER:
Dr. Johannes Widodo is the Director of Graduate Programmes in Architectural Conservation and Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Asian Architectural and Urban Heritage at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is an Associate Member of the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the founder of mAAN (modern Asian Architecture Network), an Executive Committee member of the Asian Academy for Heritage Management, a jury member for the UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, a member of the International Committee on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) International Scientific Committee, a founding member and director of ICOMOS National Committee of Singapore and Indonesia, a founding member of DoCoMoMo Macau and Singapore, and the founder and executive director of iNTA (International Network of Tropical Architecture). He served as an advisory board member of the Preservation of Sites and Monuments of the National Heritage Board of Singapore (2013-2019), a board member of SEACHA (South-East Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance) since 2019, and a member of the Singapore chapter of TCHS (The Circle of Human Sustainability) since 2022.

He received his first professional degree in Architecture from Parahyangan Catholic University (Bandung, Indonesia, 1984), a Master of Architectural Engineering from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Leuven, Belgium, 1988), and a PhD in Architecture from the University of Tokyo (Tokyo, Japan, 1996).
